If you are like many homeowners approaching a move, you may have made a list of all of the moving supplies you will need to gather before packing and loading your moving truck and moving a home. This list may include just a few items, such as cardboard boxes, packing tape, and dollies.

However, it is important to realize that there are many more moving supplies out there that can make both packing and loading your moving truck faster and easier while helping to prevent damage to your home and belongings.

Read on to learn about five moving supplies that can make the process of moving a home faster and easier.

WARDROBE BOXES
Packing and unpacking all of yourclothing can be one of the most time-intensive aspects of the moving process. Moving your family’s clothing can be much faster and easier when you pack and transport it in garment boxes instead of packing it in traditional moving boxes. Garment boxes, also called wardrobe boxes, are tall cardboard boxes equipped with metal bars that you can hang clothing on.

When packing garment boxes, you can simply take the clothing that is hanging in the closets and transfer it right into the garment boxes without even removing clothes from their hangers. Then, when you arrive at your new home, you can simply transfer your family’s clothing right from boxes into your new closets.

This moving supply cannot only save you time during the packing and unpacking process, but it can also help keep clothing wrinkle-free during the move.

DOOR JAMB PROTECTORS

Door frames can be damaged very easily during the moving process when large items, such as furniture and appliances, are moved through them. If you damage a door frame when moving these large items through it, it can lead to a big moving day hassle when you then have to spend time repairing the frame or hiring someone to repair it.

You won’t have to worry about damaging door frames on moving day when you cover them with door jamb protectors. These are thick, rectangular-shaped pads that you slide right over your door jambs. They are typically equipped with soft clamps that hold them in place on your door frame so you don’t have to worry about them sliding off while moving a home.

You can cover all of the door frames in your home with these protectors before you begin moving large objects throughout your home and remove them after to easily prevent door frame damage.

MOVING STRAPS
While moving any heavy item out of your home can be difficult, it can be especially difficult to move heavy items that are tough to grip with your hands, such as washing machines, ovens, and other items with no handles or protruding parts to grab onto.

Moving these items can be much easier when you transport them with moving straps. Once you slide the moving straps into place under the object, you and a moving partner slide your forearms into loops on the straps. When you lift the item, you can stabilize it with your hands and move the item right onto the moving truck or onto and off of a moving dolly.

Using these straps doesn’t only help you and your moving day helpers move these objects more quickly and easily, but they can also help you avoid injury when you can transport bulky items out of your home while using proper body mechanics.

MATTRESS CARRIERS

While you may be able to use your moving straps to transport your family’s mattresses, there are special mattress carriers made specifically for moving mattresses. While mattress carrier designs all vary slightly, most consist of a large fabric pocket with a handle on each side that you slide a mattress into.

Once you slide one side of a mattress into one of these carriers, you and a partner can each simply grab onto the carrier handles and carry the mattress right out of your house and onto the moving truck. Be sure to cover your mattress with a protector before sliding the mattress carrier over it to keep it clean during the moving process.

FURNITURE PROTECTORS OR MOVING BLANKETS
There are several types of furniture protectors on the market. Some are plastic covers that encase your furniture to keep it clean and dry on moving day. These covers can be especially beneficial when you must move on a rainy day.

There are other furniture protectors that are thick, padded, blanket-like covers that you drape over furniture before moving it. These thick covers protect your furniture from damage while moving it while also protecting your walls from damage that the furniture could inflict on them if the furniture accidentally strikes a wall during the moving process. Padded furniture protectors are also often called moving blankets.

You can also use your padded furniture protectors or moving blankets to pad home appliances and electronics during the moving process.

If you are moving a home soon and have already made a list of the moving supplies you will need, be sure to consider adding one or more of these five items to your list to help make packing and truck loading quicker and easier.
